Formed over 600 million years ago from ancient seafloor sediments — pebbles, sand, and volcanic ash — compressed and cemented together under unimaginable pressure, Puddingstone is a conglomerate unlike anything else on earth. The result? Stones that look like they were painted — burnt sienna, mustard gold, deep burgundy, charcoal grey, and flashes of teal — all swirled together in one extraordinary rock.
The name comes from the old English plum pudding, a dense, fruit-studded dessert that these stones uncannily resemble. Glaciers carried them from the Boston Basin all the way to Plymouth’s shore, tumbling and polishing them along the way into the smooth, warm, tactile treasures you see here.
