Some love stories are written in ink. Others are shaped by tide and time.

Nathaniel Hawthorne called his wife Sophia his "Dove." She called him her genius. Through years of quiet New England life — in Salem, in Concord, in the gentle rhythms of a shared home — they built something rare: a love that was also a creative partnership, tender and enduring.

These two Plymouth beach stones carry that same quiet beauty. Warm amber and burnt sienna meet cool blue-grey and silver, iron-kissed edges and deep hornblende bands, epidote green and feldspar cream — a palette as layered and alive as the story they honor. Substantial in the hand, smooth from the shore, and unmistakably a pair.

Gathered from the shores of Plymouth, Massachusetts — America's Hometown — and nestled together in a drawstring pouch.

A penny is included in photos for scale.

About These Stones

These are natural Plymouth beach stones. Both appear to be metamorphic in character — one showing iron oxide staining with possible epidote and chlorite, the other a hornblende-bearing gneiss or schist with feldspar banding. Stone identification is offered as a best estimate; natural variation is part of what makes each piece one of a kind.
