"But Jonah ran away from the Lord." — Jonah 1:3

He had a clear assignment. A direct word. A city that needed to hear it.

And he bought a ticket in the opposite direction.

We know this feeling. The nudge we ignore. The call we rationalize away. The boat we board because it feels safer than obedience. Jonah didn't doubt God existed — he just decided, for a moment, that he knew better. And so he ran.

The sea had other plans.

What followed was not punishment so much as redirection — three days in the dark, in the deep, in the belly of something so much larger than himself. No distractions. No escape routes. Just Jonah, and God, and the question that always finds us eventually: Are you ready now?

He was. And the fish delivered him exactly where he was supposed to go.

The Stones

"The Whale" is likely porphyry — an igneous rock so prized in the ancient world that Roman emperors reserved it exclusively for imperial use. Dark blue-green with light green flecks embedded in its fine-grained matrix, its surface tells two stories: one side smooth and ocean-worn, the other showing turquoise-teal breaking through rust and creamy peach — minerals transforming over centuries.

A coastal blue stone with black stripes and faint quartz threading through — weathered, authoritative, unhurried. It was present before Jonah ran. It was present in the deep. It will be present after. The quartz catches light quietly, the way grace does.

A tiny agate — muted coastal blue-teal, pitted with small holes from a life in motion, its surface marked with the frantic lines of someone who thought he had a better route. And then — right at the top — a smooth, flat drop of light teal-green, banded like still water. A hand placed. A pause. Are you ready now?

Three stones. One story. The oldest human pattern there is.

Hand-collected from Plymouth, Massachusetts. Never tumbled. Never treated. Each set is one of a kind.
