The imagery of green pastures represents peace, serentiy and God's provision - a place of rest and comfort.   A place that we are invited to, to take a break from our worries and troubles and to lay our burdens before Him.  When we accept the invitation to rest, we discover His grace covers us like a soft green blanket.

Hand-picked from the shores of  Plymouth, Massachusetts, this Green Pastures stone is a unique find.  Deep blue-green to near-black, scattered with golden-yellow blooms, pitted with ancient voids, and hiding a flash of turquoise.   

Set it on a desk, a windowsill, garden altar - or beside your favorite resting spot. Let it remind you to be still.

About This Stone

Likely epidosite or epidote-rich metabasalt — a metamorphic rock formed when ancient volcanic basalt was transformed by heat and water deep in the earth. The result is one of the most mineralogically complex stones found on any New England shore.

• The deep blue-green to near-black matrix — the original basaltic rock, transformed under pressure. The color comes from chlorite and actinolite — minerals that form when volcanic rock is slowly altered by the Creator’s hand.
• The golden-yellow blobs and patches — these are epidote, a calcium-aluminum silicate mineral that forms during metamorphism of basalt. The density and size of the epidote in this stone is exceptional — most greenschist has epidote as a minor accent. This stone is dominated by it, scattered across the surface like sunlight breaking through a canopy.
• The pitted vesicular texture — those small holes across the dark matrix are vesicles — gas bubbles from the original volcanic rock, preserved in stone. Some are partially filled with epidote beginning to form inside them. Ancient process, frozen mid-breath.
• The flash of turquoise — visible in several angles, that tiny pop of blue-green is almost certainly malachite or chrysocolla — copper-bearing minerals that occasionally appear in metamorphosed volcanic rock. Rare. Easy to miss. Worth finding.
• The cream and lavender-pink interior zones — likely prehnite or calcite, filling the larger cavities where the surface has opened up. Soft and luminous against the dark matrix.
