David & Bathsheba

"One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful."

And David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, “She is Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite.”

Then David sent messengers to get her. She came to him, and he slept with her. Then she went back home. The woman conceived and sent word to David: “I am pregnant.”

David would call for Uriah to come home from battle, hoping to pass the child off as his. But when Uriah’s loyalty to his post remained unshakeable, David called for his destruction.

This was not a clean love story. It began in sin. A king who took what was not his. A woman who had no choice. A husband sent to die.

The Bible shows us that even the greatest of men can fall. The story of David and Bathsheba reveals how a single impulse can lead to immense consequences. Grounded in his authority, David saw her from his palace and allowed desire to cloud his judgment. A reminder to all of us that we must safeguard our hearts and align our desires with the will of God — and that no position, no power, no reputation protects us from ourselves.

And yet…

From that broken beginning, God did something no one could have predicted. He redeemed it. The child born of that union — Solomon — would become the wisest king Israel ever knew. And through this line, centuries later, would come Jesus.

About These Stones

• David — deep charcoal with silver fire — likely mica schist, a metamorphic rock dense with muscovite or biotite mica. In direct light it doesn’t just shimmer — it blazes. Powerful, complex, and impossible to ignore. A king’s stone, for better and for worse.
• Bathsheba — warm cream speckled with amber and gold — likely granite, New England’s bedrock, with feldspar giving the creamy base, quartz adding glassy flecks, and iron oxide blooming in warm amber patches across the surface. Luminous. Arresting. The kind of thing that stops a man mid-thought.
• Solomon — small, creamy, and quietly whole — the child neither of them planned, and the one through whom everything was redeemed.

Not polished. Not treated. What you see is exactly what the shore gave up.

Keep them together. Let them remind you that redemption doesn’t require a clean beginning.
