Circles of Grace

Some things in nature are so perfectly formed, they stop you in your tracks. Circles of Grace is a curated set of three Plymouth MA beach stones, each bearing rare concentric fold patterns — ancient geological signatures formed hundreds of millions of years ago when the earth itself was being built.

These are metamorphic stones — likely phyllite and schist with quartzite inclusions — shaped by the Appalachian mountain-building events that transformed seafloor sediments into folded, banded rock under intense heat and pressure deep within the earth. What you see in those swirling circles isn’t decoration. It’s history. Geologists call them “fold noses” — interference patterns created when rock layers were compressed and bent over millennia. They are extraordinarily rare to find on a beach.

The sage greens, grey-blues, and creamy whites speak to the chlorite-rich minerals unique to New England’s ancient geology. Carried by glaciers to Plymouth’s shore, these three stones found each other — and now they’ve found you.
